The above post is very accurate; I wish every pet owner had to work in a shelter
before they even get a pet. It would slow down at least some of the impulse(as in Christmas) adoptions. The euthanasia part is stretched to make a point, I'm in the euthanasia room frequently and it is rarely as was described.
I have spent 23 years in rescue and we try to focus on what we can do. Often
we can make a difference in a dog or cats life, but also in an adopters attitude.
We educate people every day and as heartbreaking as it is to be in a shelter, we do make a difference. What would it be like if there were no shelters?
Thank you to the shelter manager for making a difference in so many furry lives.

A very sad but true story. I volunteered at a local shelter not too long ago and know that everything on this letter, like you said, is true. When will indeed wake up from our long dream that shelters are "havens" for unwanted pets. Thank you so much for sharing this letter and hope people find time to share it with others.
